Sesame Street for the win

I was watching Sesame Street with Beau this morning, and Bert was talking about riding his bike, and enjoying the wind in his eyebrow. Singular. Eyebrow. YASSSSSS

New bathroom, who dis

My bathroom makeover is almost complete! Got rid of the masculine black marble sink and countertop, replaced with clean white marble and new vanity/cabinets, painted it a pale blue, and now putting hardwoods over the ugly laminate that I never liked. If I didn't have kids, this would be the final piece de resistance:

Black History Month

This year I'm trying to watch some meaningful movies during Black History Month (and beyond): so far I have seen Selma and Driving While Black (PBS), and almost done with Ghosts of Mississippi. It's literally the least I can do to continue to educate myself.

Back to life, back to reality

Annnnd it's 75 and sunny once again in Dallas. All is as it should be. It's like last week was a dream. A very long, very cold dream. I think the kids may have forgotten how to play outside, though - Georgie got her first bloody nose when she banged it on the jungle gym, and Beau scraped his head pretty good as well.
In other news, his snow boots and waterproof mittens arrived. So there's that.

F you, Ted Cruz

That's it. That's the post.

I said BRRRRR it's cold in here

Holy winter weather! Loving the snow, but not so much the cold. I keep forcing Georgie to go outside - made a "sled" out of an inflatable pool toy and pulled it with an extension cord. She likes throwing "snowballs" and falling down in the piles of snow, but doesn't have waterproof gloves so her hands get bitterly cold. (I ordered snow pants and boots for Beau and mittens for both of them but no deliveries have arrived since last week so poor Beau can't even go outside at all!)

I also realized how glad I am that I don't live in a place where I have to shove a toddler (or two) into 8 layers of clothing just to go outside for 5 minutes on a daily basis. Jesus take the wheel.

We are so lucky that we have not lost power; I know many friends and neighbors who have gone 10-12 hours without electricity and it got down to 6 last night (felt like -6). Stay safe and warm friends!

Ch-ch-changes

Blowing my tax refund before I get it (as usual) and making some upgrades around the house!
  • New kitchen chairs
  • Leveling part of the backyard to make a little mini-playground area
  • New bathroom sink and vanity and painting the walls (and therefore buying new towels and such)

Exciting, yet expensive...

Earliest Filer Award?

I may or may not have just filed my taxes. And the note said the IRS has not yet started reviewing to provide refunds, so basically I am too early. BOOM goes the dynamite.

Josh Gad = God

I may be late to the party here, but I came across Josh Gad's "Reunited Apart" series on YouTube last night. He (virtually) brings together the casts of classic movies (mostly from the 80s), has them recite lines and tell behind the scenes stories. I watched Goonies (featuring Steven Spielberg!!), Ferris Bueller (Ben Stein!!), and some of Ghostbusters (Sigourney!!). Plan on knocking out Splash and Back to the Future next. Soooooo good.

Slight sliver lining

This week has been nuts, trying to juggle the kids and my mom and some semblance of work...but I lost 3 pounds, so there's that.

Mom of the year

My mom had ankle surgery on Friday and is pretty much bedridden for two weeks (and then won't be able to drive for 10 weeks after that). We are doing okay, but it's showing me how life would be if I was truly a single mom on my own. Basically it would be a lot of TV (holy Peppa Pig) and frozen chicken nugget dinners. And honestly? I'm fine with that.

New year, new ulcer

I have been so stressed out at work the last two weeks, I feel nauseous all of the time. I have almost up and quit several times (I realize that is a foolish move, but desperate times...), and honestly a job at Home Depot sounds good right about now. Something where I don't bring my work home, and the stress level is manageable. (I'm sure I could find things to stress about at Home Depot, don't worry)
But of course mama has to bring home the bacon, which adds to the stress. Feeling trapped in a job because you have to put food on the table is not the best feeling, but I know right now I'm lucky to even be employed. See? All over the place. This blog post alone has taken a year off my life. :)

7 hours. But who's counting.

Georgie started a new little school today, just Tuesdays and Thursdays. But they go 8:30-3:30!! She usually goes like 9-1. It's sooooo long. (Yes, I realize that's how long "normal" school is. But she's 3!) I want to call to check on her, but I also don't want to be THAT mom. Ask me again in an hour.

Guardian Angels!!

My mom was driving back from Austin yesterday, and her car skidded in the snow and hit the median on 35. She spun completely around, hitting the median again. Somehow she did not hit anyone else AND is completely fine. She was even able to drive her car back to Dallas (about a mile from home, her timing belt gave out, so we had to go pick her up). Longest day ever - but so glad she's okay!!

The struggle is real

Bought myself the gift of Botox, but debating on when I should get it done - not like I'm going anywhere at the moment! Perhaps it will be a double-shot: vaccine and poison in the face...
